Will Obama and our elected representatives be up to it?       Don’t bet on it!

As a nation, not only are we over the “fiscal cliff” and “national debt cliff”, we’re over the “moral cliff” too.  If the recent elections proved anything, it is that the candidates and our voting citizens are collectively driven by one guiding light . . . What’s in it for them.  The idea of doing what’s best for the nation as a whole is long gone.  The unions and their membership vote for those who will advance the union objectives of more money and guaranteed jobs for “theirs”.  Our elected representatives vote for more votes, more money, more perks and more job security for themselves.  Our voting citizens’ vote for those candidates they believe will get them more entitlements, lower taxes and more favorable legislation on any subject they perceive as in their self-interest.  Those who did not vote disavow their moral obligation to elect representatives who will do what’s best for this country, not just for the near future but over the long haul and regardless of what “the opposition” does and says about it.

It’s about collective survival as a nation folks, not about just you or just about me!  We are all in the same boat together and we will all float or sink together in the end.  If we delay appropriate course corrections much longer, the rush for the “lifeboats” will get ugly at a very personal level.

A political flyer landed on my doorstep the other day that identified an Orange County Democratic candidate for Congress as a supporter of a plan to DO AWAY with tax deductions for existing 401(K)s and a plan to FORCE WORKERS & EMPLOYERS to contribute to a new government run 401(K) IN ADDITION TO Social Security.The flyer cited a source (*) so I decided to check it out.  Here’s what I found.

“Prosperity Economics” by Jacob S. Hacker and Nate Loewentheil, is endorsed by Campaign for America’s Future, AFL-CIO, Center for Community Change, Economic Policy Institute, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, National Council of La Raza, SEIU and more.

Now … I don’t know about you, but whenever I see AFL-CIO, SEIU and NCLR backing something, red flags start going up for me.  In my humble opinion, when union leadership backs or endorses something, it’s not because of benevolent and magnanimous motivations.  To the contrary, it’s invariably because they see it as contributing to an increase in union membership [and member dues] and an improvement in the income and power of union leadership at the expense of non-members.

While the Hacker and Loewentheil report seems at first blush to be a logical and well thought out plan for resolving the nation’s economic woes, you’ve got to ask yourself how it is that it has only now, at this eleventh hour in the election process, been released.

As for the congressional candidate who backs yet another expansion of already “too big” government and another confiscatory grab at individual income under the guise of “social fairness for all”, I say take your socialist proclivities and stick ‘em where the sun doesn’t shine.  We already have enough problems stemming from like thinking incompetents such as our current president.

So much for my thoughts!  How about yours?  I rarely receive commentary and feedback on my blog postings so for all I know they are not even being read or just aren’t that thought provoking.  In this case, I am particularly interested in hearing your opinions of the Hacker and Loewentheil report.  Let me hear from you.

Labor Vs. Taxpayers: Public-sector unions have had it their way for decades. That will change — and not just in one state — if Scott Walker survives [today's] recall vote.

Does Wisconsin matter? To hear some recent spin from Barack Obama's campaign, not as much as you would think.

Voters there on Tuesday will be deciding the political fate of Republican Gov. Walker, along with lieutenant governor and four state senators, in the state's first-ever statewide recall election. The combatants have spent an estimated $60 million so far. It looks to us like a mighty big deal, with big implications for national politics.

Clearly, the Dems and the unions share the view that if you don't like the outcome of an election, all you need to do is spend more taxpayer money to reverse it via a recall.  Let's hope the voters in Wisconsin are smart enough to recognize what Gov. Walker has done for them by changing a multi-billion dollar deficit into a budget surplus in the brief time he's been in office.  It's about time that folks recognize that the unions are for the union leaders and care not a whit about the the general best interests of their community.

If Gov. Walker wins tonight, I predict we'll see more of the same in other states.  In my opinion, it can't happen soon enough.
