Whitewashing Obama

Exhibit A is CNN's Soledad O'Brien. Earlier this week, she hosted a segment that tried to de-link Obama from Chicago socialist Saul Alinsky. The late Alinsky is the father of community organizing and the author of the far-left bible "Rules for Radicals."

O'Brien opened her piece by scolding GOP front-runner Newt Gingrich for warning Obama "will represent Saul Alinsky (and) European socialism" in a second term. "President Obama has never said that he was influenced by Alinsky," O'Brien insisted.”

Another Democrat Lie

In recent weeks the White House has been pushing a new argument about the economy: "We didn’t know how bad it was."  President Obama used this line Tuesday in an interview with KIRO in Seattle, saying that he wished he understood just how deep the economic problems were when he took office. Obama said: “I think we understood that it was bad but we didn’t know how bad it was.” He added: “I think I could have prepared the American people for how bad this was going to be had we had a sense of that.”

So, was Barack Obama surprised by the seriousness of the economic problems in 2008, as he now claims?

In a word: No.

On September 28, 2008, in the first head-to-head debate with John McCain, Obama said: “We are going through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.” He called it “a defining moment in our history.”

A post on the Obama administration’s transition page said that the United States “faces its most serious economic crisis since the great depression.” 

“Our country faces its most serious economic crisis since the great depression. Working families, who saw their incomes decline by $2,000 in the economic ‘expansion’ from 2000 to 2007, now face even deeper income losses. Retirement savings accounts have lost $2 trillion. Markets have fallen 40% in less than a year. Millions of homeowners who played by the rules can't meet their mortgage payments and face foreclosure as the value of their homes have plummeted. With credit markets nearly frozen, businesses large and small cannot access the credit they need to meet payroll and create jobs.”

If Obama was exaggerating, others believed him. The depth of the recession was widely reported when Obama was elected. On November 5, one day after the election, Agence France Presse reported that “Obama faces the biggest global crisis since the 1930s Great Depression and a host of domestic economic ills, including rising unemployment, falling home values and deeply shaken confidence when he takes office on January 20.” An analysis by the Associated Press sounded a similar note, arguing “the president-elect must immediately confront the worst economic conditions since the 1930s Great Depression.” The Boston Globe called it “the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.” A memo from the Obama-friendly Center for American Progress called the situation “perhaps the most daunting economic challenge faced by a new president since the Great Depression.”

Why would Obama say something so easily refuted? Perhaps he’s simply hoping the media won’t call him on it – a reasonable expectation. Or maybe he’s hoping for the opposite – that the media will call him on his current mendacity and, as a consequence, remind voters just how bad the economy was when he came to office. Who knows?

Either way, the White House’s current claim that it was unaware of the depth of the economic problems is not true.  In other words, another Democrat lie.

The Origin of Title VI Programs

Title VI was introduced as a part of the National Defense Education Act (NDEA) in 1958. NDEA aimed to ensure trained manpower of sufficient quality and quantity to meet the national defense needs of the United States. Title VI was the "Language Development" section of this act, focusing on uncommonly taught languages. It supported language area centers for expansion of postsecondary instruction in uncommon languages and related subjects, modern foreign language fellowships, research supporting language learning methodology and specialized teaching materials, and language institutes to provide advanced language training. Today, these language area centers, or National Resource Centers (NRCs), Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS), and International Research and Studies (IRS) remain central programs in the Title VI array, evolving and expanding their foci in reaction to and in anticipation of global trends and security needs.

The original intent was to provide advanced language training to ensure trained manpower of sufficient quality and quantity to meet the national defense needs of the United States.

Now note how the original intent has morphed into something which supports the goals of the socialists and religious fanatics of the world.

Expanding Title VI's Reach

Although funded as part of the Higher Education Act, the Title VI programs represent a comprehensive approach to expanding international education in the U.S. Through numerous initiatives to strengthen international teaching and curricula at the K-12 level, Title VI helps to open students' eyes to the wider world and engage future area studies specialists at a young age, increasing the likelihood that students will pursue internationally-focused studies later. By partnering with other institutions of higher education, Title VI grantees share the benefit of their Federal funding while strengthening the network of scholars and academic programs in international fields. On grantee campuses, Title VI funds are used to strengthen foreign language, area and international studies teaching, research, and materials at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. With ongoing guidance, more applications reflect efforts to strengthen the international dimensions of professional education--in schools of business, education, law, medicine, and journalism, and other programs. More proposals are also incorporating initiatives that expand Title VI's reach to members of underrepresented groups, including minorities, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. Title VI-funded, field-based conferences to identify national needs have provided direction to ED funding priorities. At the same time, international education program evaluation requirements and performance objectives initiatives have expanded. These efforts will lead to even higher quality programs with sustained and targeted outcomes.

How about including applications to strengthen an understanding of the nature of individual liberty and the civil society in a constitutional republic, including the essential principles of America's societal and political order?  How about  the inclusion of courses citing historical examples of the roots and evolution of despotism and tyranny throughout the world and the impact upon the societies where freedom was sacrificed to utopianism?

Insurance Companies To Provide “Free” Benefits

Excuse me!  When did you last hear of any insurance company providing “free” anything?  If your experience has been at all like mine, it’s difficult to get an insurance company to pay for the benefits which are actually set forth in their policy at the time you enroll or purchase it.  At the next renewal period, you can generally look forward to cuts in “benefits” and hikes in premiums.  Guess what … if our government is successful in mandating that insurance companies must cover the cost of birth control, it won’t be free!!   Any guesses who will pay for it?  NO?  Try you and me and everyone else, whether they like it or not, because nobody can afford to provide goods and services for free.

Yet free birth control is just what the Obama administration now says everyone is entitled to since an outraged public has forced them to back off their plan to trample the First Amendment to our constitution.   The Catholic Church is outraged over this latest attempt to jamb Obama’s birth control policies down the throat of the church against their religious views.  By the way, it’s not about health care.  If anyone needs birth control, it is already easy enough for them to obtain it at any pharmacy in the country at reasonable and affordable cost.  Yes, their cost.  What it is about is stopping the current administration from expanding its already excessive powers in flagrant disregard for our constitution.  It is therefore not simply an issue for Catholics.  It is an issue for every citizen and every religion in this country, regardless of their views on birth control because, if the current administration can get away with this, it will overrun every other religion and person holding a divergent point of view from that held by “the government” on any subject.

Our nation’s founding fathers specifically added the first ten amendments to our constitution during the constitutional ratification process specifically because they were fearful of creating a government which was not specifically limited in its powers and which might, in pursuit of its own self-interests, govern in a manner which was contrary to our Declaration of Independence which reads in part as follows:

“…We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. …”

Clearly, the current administration considers itself exempt.  I can cite numerous examples, can you? 

By the way, nowhere in our constitution does it say that anyone is entitled to free birth control or free health care.  If you want birth control and health care, you pay for it!  Don’t expect someone else to cover the cost!

New Illegal Alien Advocate Undercuts Border Control

On Tuesday, the Obama Administration named Andrew Lorenz-Strait the first official taxpayer-funded public advocate for illegal immigrants, the Washington Times reports.

This new position, the Times says, is "charged with listening to immigrants' concerns about its law enforcement policies.”



Law: If anything shows how ever-expanding government works at cross-purposes, it's the Obama administration's newly named post of "public advocate" for illegal aliens. What part of "illegal" don't they understand?

It seems those who've broken the law by entering the U.S. illegally are now entitled to special U.S. government protection from — the U.S. government. At least, that's the logic of the phony new "public advocate" post created for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ENOUGH ALREADY !!!!  I am sick and tired of Obama building his support base with taxpayer dollars, particularly mine!  Put the responsibility in the department or office responsible and omit the multiple and costly layers of management with often divergent viewpoints and/or objectives.  This is PARTICULARLY true with his latest appointment.  Illegal aliens are ILLEGAL.  As such, their ONLY entitlement is deportation, NOT an “official advocate” whose duties will include listening to the concerns they have with our law enforcement policies.  It’s outrageous that the Obama administration has appointed a taxpayer-funded activist for illegal and criminal immigrants who are detained or ordered deported. The administration yet again acts more like a lobbying firm for illegal immigrants than as an advocate for the American people.
